Dear ‘big clubs’ – It does ne matter

thumbnail_FullSizeRender

London, Manchester, Liverpool, it’s all yours.

As the legendary former Leicester Mercury football correspondent Bill Anderson used to say “it does ne matter”

You could have told Bill that City were about to sign Ronaldo but in a bid to play a news line down and squirrel it away (in the days when news stories could be held for a day or so meaning improvements to your short irons became more of a priority) our Bill would shrug it off with an “it does ne matter”

Pretty soon fans of the ‘big clubs’ will appear from the dark caves which have housed them since May 2nd when Leicester City were confirmed as the Premier League Champions.

Their voices will be louder, the chips on their shoulders bigger and the put downs will be sharper they will claim. Arsenal may lead the table in February, Spurs could romp to the title, maybe Jose or Pep will bring the glistening trophy to the North West. Fine. It does ne matter.

If Claudio’s men don’t fight it out at the top of the Premier League again, that’s cool. It’s like envious acquaintances having a pop at a lottery winner for buying more tickets and never winning the jackpot again.

The cash is in the bank lads, job done, the greatest sport story ever has been penned. Hollywood are releasing it as a movie, the annals of history will reflect that Leicester City’s achievement of 2015/2016 cannot be eclipsed. Your lot should be winning it year in year out.

So when fans of the big boys start giving it the big un, tell them it’s about time they stepped up and performed. Ask them what they’ve been playing at. Show them a picture of our Victoria Park with hundreds of thousands of people screaming as the biggest prize in domestic football was hoisted high by Wes Morgan, and ask whether they will ever celebrate like our city did.

Will their buildings be lit up blue, will every shop dress their windows in the club’s colours, will children in local playgrounds be shouting Sonnnnnnn as ours bellowed VARDYYYYYY when they scored the 17th goal of break time at school? No.

More likely people going about their business in London will huff at the road closures whilst the open top bus crawls past the passionate fans who line the streets. Enjoy it chaps, but there ain’t no party like a Leicester party.

The class of 2015/2016 will never be surpassed and our city’s moment in the sun means we will smile at your ‘top of the league’ banter.

Bitter? No. Prepared for the onslaught of simple, one eyed football fans who believe the best way of celebrating the success of their club is by claiming the moral high ground of others, yes.

Let us know when watching your team makes your nose tickle, your Grandparents cry and your children sleep in their football shirts for a week.

Immortal Foxes.

Manchester United win another league title, it does ne matter.

Rant over, enjoy the season everybody and may the best team win.
