Commentary notes from Leicester City 2-0 Wolves
My cans broke at Old Trafford and I hadn’t got them fixed cos I’m an idiot, so, hair bobbles were the order of the day and do a fine job, they’re staying, thanks babe.
Nampalys Mendy started his first game since a 3-0 defeat under Ranieri in 2017 so around 18 months since his last Premier League outing and he had an impressive game.
The midfield was a fascinating battle ground with Wolves promoted from The Championship and some pundits backing them to have a strong season amongst the elite. Neves and Moutinho had caught the eyes in Wolves’ two all draw at Everton first up.
The visitors set off at fast pace, pinning The Foxes in and rattling the crossbar three minutes with the vastly experienced Moutinho attempting to finish off Jimenez break away. Chilwell cleared off the line a minute later and City were clinging on to their clean sheet; Jimenez again the protagonist.
Maddison was bring nullified with Wolves playing deep in midfield so wasn’t able release his creative juices but as the game wore on he began to find pockets of space, a few backfoot turns later and he had his tail up.
Defensively Evans looked short of first team action and was treading water at times but again, as the game progressed he improved.
Albrighton’s 30th minute cross was headed into his own goal by Doherty who had an eventful day, it was yet another class cross from Albrighton.
Maddison notched his first Premier League goal just before the break after the best player in the first two game, Ricardo, found Maddison who’s 18 yard shot was deflected into the bottom corner of Patricio’s net and the game looked safe at 2-0.
The second half provided a big talking point, Jamie Vardy’s red card. He seemed to take a heavy touch halfway inside the Wolves half with 66 minutes on the clock, Kop end, and flew into a tackle on Doherty who was lucky his right leg wasn’t planted otherwise there was a chance it could have been broken. Vardy was high, late and out of control and saw red, cue boos for referee Mike Dean who I thought had a good game actually, replays would show most that it was a deserved red card and Vardy misses three games having had a short pre-season, not ideal for the best striker the club, has ever and will ever see. Three games for Iheanacho to catch the eye.
No places for King and Simpson in the squad again who’s futures look to be away from the club and even without a place in the 25 man squad.

Union FS unfurled a wonderful Kop sized flag pre-match which looked outstanding and certainly helped create yet another fantastic atmosphere.
