10 years with BBC Radio Leicester by numbers

/

On 9th June 2008 I joined BBC Radio Leicester having left BBC Three Counties Radio with 4 football seasons of reporting experience.

10 years of notebooks. Always the same book. PaperChase. Elastic to keep the teamsheets in, clear front to see all the fixtures – geek.

I remember the day I got the call from the Editor to tell me I was coming back home to Leicester and had a full time job following The Foxes, the club I supported as a boy. I haven’t forgotten how lucky I am to do the job I do and I’m very thankful to everybody who tunes in on radio, TV and online. Thank you, I mean it.

And to the really kind people who stop me in the street and thank me for doing the job I do, that does mean the world to me. A gent recently said “I can’t potter about my shed or tidy the garden without you and Matt Elliott entertaining me on the wireless on a Saturday. You make me feel like I’m there” the final part being the best compliment anybody can pay, as for the first part, poor bloke, Matty……. *hand plant on face*

Here are my 10 years following The Foxes by numbers (yes I have a spreadsheet………….sado):-

Total games (including friendlies) = 545

Total goals called – 1522

Leicester City goals called – 874 including friendlies.

Games missed = 13

Permanent managers = Nigel Pearson, Paulo Sousa, Sven Goran Erikkson, Nigel Pearson, Claudio Ranieri, Craig Shakespeare, Claude Puel.

Sharing my first commentary season with John Sinclair. Acting for the camera as this was pre-match – clown.
